Sony A7r Iii Unable to Read Memory Card
Sony A7 : Unable to read retentivity carte du jour. Reinsert Memory card.
Hullo,
Everytime I plough on my sony A7 I become this error : "Unable to read memory carte. Reinsert Memory bill of fare."
Information technology blocks the screen so I can't exercise anything.
I tried switching SD card, I even bought a new i nil works.
These carte du jour all works on other camera and calculator.
I would go to sony store and so they could take a wait at it.
The problem is I am travelling through brazil for the next month and my goal was to have moving picture here.
Plus the simply store they say they could take a look at it is in a complete some other city that. I tin can't accomplish now.
It'due south obvious the trouble comes from the camera. Is there a fashion that I tin can set up that by myself?
Does anyone have an idea of what I could do ?

You might wish to format your bill of fare with SDFormatter. Then insert your card in the camera w/o formatting it again into it. The camera should ask y'all to create an image databas file. If then, printing Enter and shoot usually. Might work... or not. BTW i format all my cards this mode personally. FWIW.

I'm a Nikon and a Sony user. I've never e'er ever e'er always had an issue with any brand of SD cards in my Nikon Cameras. I've got this error once or twice on my Sony A7II but it magically went away after a few "turn information technology off and dorsum on again" attempts. But I as well started to go this error on my sony RX100III with more one SD card and two dissimilar brands of SD card.
I absolutely refuse to believe its a carte du jour issue! I believe its a Sony software issue. (I cant back that belief up with whatever proof only It wont change my opinion)
Formatting Sony cards in camera takes a heck of a lot longer than formatting a card in a Nikon photographic camera. The Sony system appears to create a database and file directory construction on each SD card which is kinda crap and sucks large time and makes no sense. I dont want an image catalog/database on my SD card with a complicated directory construction god damn it only write my raw image files to the feckin memory card with at least fuss every bit possible. I think what happens is this catalog/database per card is very hands corrupted making accessing the images or reading the bill of fare difficult when things get incorrect.
The worst thing most seeing this mistake is that y'all cannot cancel out of the error to let you become back to the bill of fare and effort to reformat the card (which solves the issue sometimes) It means if your out in the field and taking photos with only the ane card in the camera and the error decides to rear its ugly head your screwed...and game over human! If the Sony menu would just permit you to cancel the fault and give you lot the option to reformat in-camera it would be cracking and although you lot would loose images already taken information technology would not cease you expressionless in your tracks.

I merely had this trouble the other week, not tried the photographic camera since (A7 Ii) simply had seemed to clear after a while.

A full guess by me, this error message looks to be standard across the Sony camera range, not merely the A series - I'm going to try and 'clean the slot'...

FWIW;
Using the Lexar Pro 1000x SD U3 II Course x carte. Have used the in Nikon camera's for long time with no problem. Recently bought Sony a7III and have had the same "Unable to read ..." trouble. First time, I formatted on Mac; Disk Utilities; Erased; Mac OS Extended (Journaled), placed carte back in Sony photographic camera and was able to reformat. Second time this didn't piece of work. I placed the card in slot 2, reformatted the card and was able to use the menu in slot one once more. Sony, delight correct the problem, very credible that it is not a problem with the cards. Side note, used these same card in Sony A7S MII with no issues what and then ever.

This error has started to touch on my Sony a 7R3. I began to use Lexar 128 GB professional 1000 X cards and of a sudden began to experience slot I errors. The camera freezes with an fault message that it cannot recognize the carte du jour in slot 1 and it should be reinserted. Later on several re-insertion attempts and turning the photographic camera on and off the behavior is not improved. The camera remains locked out in slot 1 remains inaccessible. The fault message ties up the computer rear screen display and menu organization such that at that place is no selection to format the carte and effort again.
These errors also occurred with Sony cards and with Lexar 64 GB cards. The error occurred at random times and would totally tie up my camera on a photo shoot. Fortunately I was able to save a JPEG version onto slot Ii . At that place is been no malfunction on the slot II cards. The camera no longer recognizes when a UHS I card is inserted in slot 1. It does recognize on occasion the insertion of a UHS II card.
The occurrence of this mistake is completely unrelated to whatsoever formatting of the menu equally I have both been able to insert UHS 2 cards and correctly format them in photographic camera and introduced cards formatted by another camera. Still, UHS I cards are not recognized even if formatted correctly on an SD foundation formatting program equipped Windows computer.
Afterward the mistake occurs, the image information is not lost on the card simply can exist retrieved by a simple card reader plugged into a laptop.
The error is very frustrating and I doubtable may correspond an mistake in the camera firmware. On visual inspection of the slot, at that place is no abnormality of the Pins, retaining clip, or other configuration items. I also get this error occasionally previously on my A7 and just recently on my A9. The images are never lost as they can be read from the PC, but it magically simply works again by taking it out, plugging it in, turning the photographic camera on/off multiple times. I call back I even blow in the slot and brand sure the contacts are cleans like the quondam NES cartridge days merely non sure if that really helps.
Never have lost photos, but it is a major badgerer occasionally.

I would honey if someone had a solution to this fault. It's been getting worse and worse on my a7. It takes a lot of turning the photographic camera on and off, reinserting the card, etc... earlier it works. It's e'er a 50/l shot when I start it up that I am going to get the error. in one case it'due south clear the camera works fine. Simply actually abrasive to have to spend 5-10 minutes messing with information technology when I need to use it

At that place is a batch of SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro UHS I 64 and 128 cards that take a compatibility issue with Sony a9, a7iii and a7rIII cameras in slot 1. If you put the card in slot 2 it will probably piece of work.

I started having the issue on my a7iii when upgrading from 64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro to the 128GB of the aforementioned carte type. Nearly returned the cards until I came across the above suggestion to switch priority to slot 2.
It works! Switching "Prioritize Rec. Media" to Slot 2 fixed this issue for me.
These are the steps I took
1. Quick Format both cards on a pc
2. Insert your 1st card into slot 2 on your sony photographic camera
3. Go to the Carte du jour > Setup 6/7 > Rec. Media Settings > Prioritize Rec. Media > and alter information technology to Slot 2.
4. The carte volition go updated with database, filesystem, etc
v. Remove that menu from slot two and put it in slot i.
6. Put your 2nd carte in slot 2
7. It gets updated, etc etc.
viii. Both cards should now exist setup the same and working
That's it. you might not need all those steps to get it to work, simply only wanted to share what worked for me.
Hope this helps someone else out there.

Simple solution: Update to firmware version ii.10 and besides read the small text about this upgrade.
This is a different effect from the A7 that the OP is describing, which probably is caused past a faulty photographic camera.

I merely got my A7iii concluding dark. I put a make new Sandisk Farthermost 128mb SD card in slot 1 and automatically received the aforementioned error you speak of. Afterwards reviewing the Sony community I tried a trick that so far is working.
one. Seitch the chief slot to slot 2 nether Setup-> Rec. Media Settings -> Prioritize Rec. Media.
two. Format SD carte du jour in slot 2.
3. You lot tin can and so switch back to slot i as chief or shoot using slot 2 as principal.
I did this and the SD card seems to be working now with no issues....so far.
